Obituary of Gary L. Stanford
In the fall of 1952 in Akron, Ohio to Sylvester Theodore (Ted) Lindsey and Patricia Ann Stanford, Gary L. Stanford made his entry into this world on October eighteenth.
Gary grew up with his siblings graduating from the Akron Public School system and grew to develop a love for many things which he maintained throughout his lifetime. Leading him to become a jack of all trades.
Though he worked in a restaurant, as a construction worker, and a landscaper, Gary operated in the gift of helps. His most prized gifting was lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Gary was known for being the person you could call on to help make repairs, move furniture, or manicure lawns. Not only was Gary known for lending a helping hand, but he was also known for his famous saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Gary had many favorite past times from watching bull riding, watching basketball games, and listening to music but his all time favorite past time was spending time with his family, who will dearly miss him. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Lucy, Roxi, and Bessie. Siblings Deborah, Nakita, Christine, Gwen and Terry. Grandson Tyreek and nieces Natasha, and Michell’e (Moe) and bonus father Peter Crews.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Rasheen Hunley of Georgia, daughters Daytona Davis and Vanita Small both of Akron, Ohio. Seven grandchildren, four great-grand children. Siblings Stephanie (James) Kimberly, Michelle, Jason (New Jersey), Chaunie (Darryl), Billy, Naomi, Dy’Quone, Mary, Renetta (Charles) Bonus mother Susan Lindsey and special niece Michelle Powell and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Wellington Funeral Service 811 Grant Street Akron, Ohio 44311. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
